Careers Night: The Power of Connection
Careers Night: The Power of Connection
On a vibrant Thursday evening in March, Scots buzzed with anticipation as we welcomed Old Boys and Kambala alumnae for an enriching Careers Night tailored for Years 10 to 12 students.
The air was charged with the prospect of wisdom and inspiration emanating from diverse fields including agribusiness, applied finance, defence, engineering, entrepreneurship, health, sports management, and the sciences.
In the spotlight, Jonathan Tanner (’98) illuminated the room with his captivating career journey, peppered with the excitement of two entrepreneurial ventures under his belt. As he recounted his path, Jonathan linked his learning to his own student days, rendering his insights all the more relatable.
In a parallel session, Ms Zara Curtis, a notable Kambala alumna, wove tales of her career journey from journalism to the dynamism of marketing within the insurance sector. Her anecdotes weren't just stories; they were gateways to potential mentors, internships, and invaluable professional connections, poised to shape the trajectories of our students' futures.
Andrew Hutchinson (’99), a beacon of success in his own right, captivated the room with his experience, painting vivid pictures of his own struggles and triumphs within the business world. Through his words, students started to visualise their own potential, igniting confidence as they dared to dream big.
Ian Purchas (’77) stood as a testament to the enduring rewards of perseverance and hard work. With a wealth of knowledge about the intricacies of the applied finance landscape, he illuminated pathways that students might not have considered, offering insights into emerging trends, and coveted skills.
The evening was a celebration of the formidable bonds we share with our Old Boys—a testament to the enduring strength of our community, bridging the past and present, while keeping our eye on the future landscape of work. This sense of belonging isn't just a fleeting sentiment; it's a legacy that urges students to remain connected long after they've crossed into adult life, fostering a cycle of generosity and mentorship. With Scots leading the way, the future shines brighter than ever before.
