Cranbrook vs Scots Old Boys Sailing Regatta
A battle of Bellevue Hill on the water, sailors both experienced and novice will take part in a winner-takes-all race for the coveted trophy. The rivalry of the two schools has extensively played out throughout the years at the school level, however this new race format provides a platform for alumni of the schools to once again compete against familiar rivals.

The rivalry of the two schools has extensively played out throughout the years at the school level, however this new race format provides a platform for alumni of the schools to once again compete against familiar rivals.
Vaucluse Yacht Club is the ideal location to host the regatta, providing a picturesque location on Watsons Bay and easy access for both dinghy and yacht sailors.
Michael Stackpool, YVC Commodore and Scots alumni (1991) explains “Vaucluse Yacht Club has always had an extensive representation of both schools within its membership and we felt it was time to lay down the challenge of which school breeds the best sailors”.
“We anticipate both quality racing and comical moments” says VYC race committee member Byron Georgouras (2001), “some alumni have continued racing into professional levels whilst others haven’t been on a Laser since leaving school!”
The format of the day will offer two separate courses to include both yachts and dinghies (Lasers, skiffs etc) the opportunity to race, with the aggregate handicap positions calculated to determine the winner. For those who don’t have direct access to a boat, the VYC will be providing yacht crewing positions and club lasers for all to take part.
Afterwards, the club will be hosting the presentation and social get together on the balcony of the VYC overlooking Sydney Harbour.
Whilst the spirit of the regatta is definitely clear, whether it’s a race to the finish line, or back to the club to enjoy the refreshments is still uncertain.
